Plastic Compound Stock and Distribution Operation in
Thailand |
| |
 |
| |
|
The NYK Map-Ta-Phut Logistics Center was
established in 1997 and was primarily engaged in the
trucking of chemicals. At that time, our target customer
was chiefly an industrial manufacturer with its own
factory in Rayong's Industrial Zone.
The customer, a well-known worldwide manufacturer and
distributor of chemical-related products commercially
known as "Plastic Compound," had been outsourcing their
logistics activities in the area to a number of local
contractors.
In 1998, after fully streamlining its production capacities
relative to production expansion, a few qualified service
providers capable of providing logistics services consistent
with requirements were requested to assist. NYK Logistics
was asked to handle warehouse operations (including
handling of hazardous commodities) in addition to chemical
trucking operations. |

In order to be qualified contractors,
service providers have to comply with international
management systems and act in accordance with the requirements
of the customer as well as those of the nation of Thailand.
Our progression/advancement for such compliance is noted
below: In 1998 -
NYK Logistics obtained a license to operate a hazardous
warehouse, which allowed us to operate in a new business
field. This success provided us with a superior advantage
over other service providers because NYK was the first
logistics provider to attain such license in this industrial
zone. In 2001 - NYK successfully implemented the following
two international management systems: 1)
Quality Management System - ISO 9002 2)
Occupational Health and Safety Management System - OHSAS
18001 In 2002 -
NYK Logistics successfully implemented the Environmental
Management System - ISO 14001
Moreover, we stressed that we must work to continually
improve our performance by encouraging technological
advancement, training programs which emphasize safety,
employer audits, etc., from the customer. For us, "Safe
Operations" is our key expression when handling chemicals.

With the above advantages, NYK Logistics
evolved as a leading logistics service provider in Thailand,
and subsequently expanded its facilities as follows:
1999 - Expansion
of warehouse space and the existing container yard
2000 - Construction of a second
warehouse 2001 - Construction
of a second container yard
Meanwhile, NYK continues to ensure that compliance is
in place. By maintaining the above-mentioned systems,
NYK successfully completed an accumulative 1,000,000
Working-Hour No Major Accident Campaign.
