Central to the success of the operation
is the storage and distribution service provided by
NYK Logistics for companies without the capability of
introducing a cost-effective distribution platform.
At a strategically located distribution centre a wide
range of food, confectionery, OTC (over the counter)
medicines, toiletries and beauty products are stored
in both ambient and temperature-controlled areas.
From a dedicated area of around 70,000 sq ft (6,500
sq m), over 8.5 million cases are delivered per annum,
of which 85% are case-picked and 35% despatched as pallets
(averaging 600 pallets per week).
With approximately 2,000 live stock keeping units (SKUs)
being carried, the traceability and visibility of orders
is vital.
Additionally all food lines bear BB (best before) dates
that are monitored and managed to meet retailers' varying
requirements.
An Opus warehouse management system supported by RF
(radio frequency) data transmission ensures the accuracy
of all warehouse activities. The warehouse features
both narrow and wide aisles to suit all types of products.
Deliveries are made via dedicated services to all major
supermarket multiples, cash and carry chains, multiple
convenience stores, CTN chains and independent stores.
NYK Logistics' sophisticated IT systems also play a
significant part in the operation. Extranet links provide
both order processing and inventory management, along
with despatch and delivery confirmation.
Proof of delivery (PODs) details can be accessed via
a secure website where KPI (key performance indicator)
information, covering orders on-time and in-full, picking
accuracy, stock loss performance and POD retrieval are
also available. |
